Can you believe it’s September???? Does this surprise you as much as it does me???? And why am I using multiple question marks???? I have no idea. Other than I’m truly gobsmacked September is here and I’m not ready to let go of summer – can I just get an ‘amen?!’ It’s still hot and humid and because the Winter of 2013-14 was so. very. long., I’ve got a death-grip on summer and will not release her until Mother Nature pries summer from my slightly wrinkled, tightly-clenched fist, one finger at a time. Even then, I predict I’ll drag myself into fall kicking and screaming.
The Professor and I are headed off for Italy to attend Jovial’s Culinary Getaway, Gluten-Free Italian Style; we’re attending as particpants this time and I have to say, we’re pretty excited. We’ve had the privilege of working with Jovial this past year and we always have their products in our pantry – but we’ve not attended the class as students so this is going to be great fun!

Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry – and if you added the proverbial Neapolitan then that rounded the number up to four flavors of ice cream in my world back in the little house on Ankeny Street. We didn’t own an extra freezer and the freezer compartment above our refrigerator always held the usual three or four stacking ice cube trays and matching storage container with just enough room for a few extra loaves of bread as well as one or two other frozen sundries for a family of six. But there were always at least one or two cartons of ice cream in Grandma and Grandpa’s lower, pull-out freezer . . . and they lived just a short distance away.

When Joyce asked me if I’d like to guest post for her, the first question I asked was, ‘what topic do you want covered?’ And when she replied, ‘Farmer’s Markets, Farmers or a recipe using market ingredients’ . . . well of course I said ‘you got it!’ Joyce first showed up on my radar in my twitter feed – the bright red hat and the fact that she lives in a big red barn, takes ballroom dance lessons with husband Charlie and uses the word ‘giggles’ for her salutation, and you’ll understand why I’m a big fan. And I knew just the recipe I wanted to share with everyone . . . Sweet Corn Ice Cream . . .
You are in for a treat because July 7th was World Chocolate Day – who knew? To celebrate, Debra and I tried to think of something chocolate to make and share with everyone. But, I was torn. I’ve been anxious to share a video that we shot last summer with head brewer Caleb Staton of Upland Brewing Co. in Bloomington, Indiana; in fact, their Wheat Ale was one of the first Indiana beers Debra tried several years ago, and we’ve both been fans every since – check out my Shandy post.
