Can you believe it’s September???? Does this surprise you as much as it does me???? And why am I using multiple question marks???? I have no idea. Other than I’m truly gobsmacked September is here and I’m not ready to let go of summer – can I just get an ‘amen?!’ It’s still hot and humid and because the Winter of 2013-14 was so. very. long., I’ve got a death-grip on summer and will not release her until Mother Nature pries summer from my slightly wrinkled, tightly-clenched fist, one finger at a time. Even then, I predict I’ll drag myself into fall kicking and screaming.
The Professor and I are headed off for Italy to attend Jovial’s Culinary Getaway, Gluten-Free Italian Style; we’re attending as particpants this time and I have to say, we’re pretty excited. We’ve had the privilege of working with Jovial this past year and we always have their products in our pantry – but we’ve not attended the class as students so this is going to be great fun!
Musical pairing – Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani featuring Akon
Last weekend, we headed down to Indianapolis and found ourselves at Goose The Market – one of our favorite places to grab a sandwich, something to drink as well as a few grocery items we might need; if you live within driving distance and you’ve never been . . . better head that way . . . Goose has it goin’ on! On this particular Saturday they were also serving up Apricot Gelato . . .
Musical pairing – Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts
This is The Professor, and I’m making my second guest post here on Smith Bites. My last post was after classes ended for Winter Break when I had a little free time, which gave Debra a little respite from her writing. While “free time” isn’t in my vocabulary at this time of year, I really want to share this fabulous and simple gelato recipe that accompanies an equally fabulous celebration.
You see, someone’s having a birthday today . . . Now I’m not sure just how celebratory someone is feeling about growing a year older (and really, how many women get excited about another birthday whizzing by?) but I always make it a celebration. I am fortunate that her birthday is sandwiched between Valentine’s Day and our Wedding Anniversary, so there are plenty of opportunities to shower her with flowers, gifts and romantic meals. Let’s just say it was a whirlwind of emotions that February of 1998, but we’ll save that story for another post.
