Well hello there! The Professor and I have been traveling these past six weeks on a summer abroad session with 14 college students to Italy; it was exciting, it was fun, it was a learning experience and if I’m being honest, it was, at times, bone-tired exhausting. But we’re back and good Lord, July 4th will be here in another two weeks – I think I’ve said it before but could we just stop time for a few days while I get my bearings???
Do you have any plans for the 4th? We’ll be heading to the East Coast for the 4th this year and will be celebrating Independence Day with our Three Many Cooks friends – we’re really looking forward to smooching on baby Dash and of course, enjoying great food, sipping fabulous cocktails and having delicious conversation – we cannot wait.
I think some of my favorite summer memories surround the 4th of July and getting together with friends and family; and July 4th always involved grilling – usually hambugers and hot dogs, chips, potato salad, watermelon, strawberry shortcake and maybe a dip of ice cream (ok, two dips of ice cream).
Once again, Smith Bites has teamed up with Sabra to celebrate Sabra’s Four Course Fourth; some of the Tastemakers have been asked to post a recipe for the event and then ask our readers to visit www.fourcoursefourth.com, grab a coupon and check out all the recipes there. We’d love for you to leave a comment on this post below sharing your favorite recipe from the Four Course site; you’ll be entered to win a giveaway for a $100 gift card PLUS a shipment of Sabra products delivered right to your door. The giveaway is open for one week and we’ll pick one winner (computer-generated) and announce that winner July 2nd – Sabra will send out your gift card directly as well as an assortment of Sabra product Pretty sweet, yes??!
Our ‘recipe’ is really a mix-in and it is an easy riff on one of my all-time childhood favorite dips for french fries: fry sauce. Those of you living on the West Coast probably know what fry sauce is but midwesterners or East-coasters may not be familiar – it is simply equal parts ketchup and mayonnaise. I have never been a fan of mayonnaise but loved, loved, LOVED fry sauce and would eat it straight up, no chaser. All we’ve done here is swap out mayonnaise for one of Sabra’s newest flavors: Lemon Twist – and if you don’t have a container of Lemon Twist on hand, you can also use Sabra’s Classic Hummus and fresh-squeezed lemon juice – the exact amount is listed in the ‘notes’ section in the recipe below. That’s it – so easy and soooooo good!
Tangy, creamy with a little sweetness, fry sauce is still one of my favorite dips and while I won’t claim it’s ‘healthy’, I mean fries or chips, come on . . . I will claim that swapping out the mayo makes this dip a teeny bit ‘healthi-er’ – it’s also great spread on your burger or hot dog.
Please visit the Four Course website, grab a coupon and peruse the other terrific recipes, then leave me a comment so that you’re entered in the giveaway – one of our readers is going to win and it may as well you YOU!
Disclosure: I am being compensated for sharing Sabra products with our readers; however, everything I write here are my own words, my own opinion, and my own experiences.
NOTE: If you don’t have a container of Lemon Twist Hummus, you can substitute Classic Hummus and add 2-3 Tablespoons of fresh-squeezed lemon juice. You can also add a teaspoon of Sriracha sauce for some heat if you’d like.
